POLICE in East and West Sepik have issued a stern warning to people who want to travel to other provinces – they must have passes with the signatures and stamp of the provincial Covid-19 team.
East Sepik police commander Supt Albert Beli said the signatures should come from the provincial Covid-19 chairman, the provincial police commander and the chief executive officer of the provincial health authority, with the original stamp that would be issued at the command centre.
Supt Beli made the call after issuing warning to two men who tried to make their own passes and to travel to Vanimo. The two were stopped at a checkpoint along the highway and told to return.
He said people in the province should be honest and serious with preventive measures put in place by the Government.
He said passes were issued at the command centre because all necessary information would be filled in there. “I have also talked with my colleague police commander of West Sepik that we will start arresting and charging people who are defying orders.
“We are strict because we are close to the border and the public must be honest by listening to the instructions that are put in place for the good of all the people of the two provinces and the country.”
Supt Beli said East Sepik people who were cleared in Vanimo and wanted to return to the province should fill in the travel pass.
He said they would not be allowed back and if they had no passes.
Supt Beli said police and PNG Defence Force officers were doing on-road checks on vehicles.
