Many lack job application skills: Volunteer

THE lack of knowledge on how to prepare documents for job applications has left so many people unemployed, according to volunteer life skills development advocate Lazarus Towa.
Towa, who is the founder of Current Job Vacancies Repost with LT, a Facebook-based job search platform, said some recent graduates gave up trying after the few applications they sent out were unsuccessful.
He said workshops on how to prepare these documents not only equip the recent graduates with a skill but boosted their confidence and motivated them not to give up.
“We run job search capacity building workshops in Port Moresby which has helped a lot of people,” he said.
“Requests were coming from the provinces and for the first time the workshop will be taken to the Highlands.
“The training tour will start in Mt Hagen then to Kundiawa, Goroka, Kainantu and end in Lae between July 23 and Aug 2.
Towa said the topics to be covered include: CV writing tips, job application letter writing, different types of job interviews, how to prepare and present on a job interview, the secret of getting a job is in the job vacancy itself, different ways to send your job applications, how and when to follow up on your interview results and insights into what it is to be in the human resource office.

  • Congratulations LT for your achievements so far. On behalf of those that you have helped find a job I know that they really appreciate your time and effort put into doing what you’re passionate about, which is to advocate individuals in Papua New Guinea to be confident and motivated in seeking employment. Keep doing what you’re doing, at least we have a national doing something to help and support the growth and development of this nation.
