BOUGAINVILLE has become the next big frontier for the PNG NRL BID’s All School Rugby League program.
After the BIDs recent expansion into NGI and Manus Islands, the spotlight has now come down on the players in Bougainville.
The BID’s Development Team including Manager Shane Morris and recent appointees Arnold Krewanty and Julian O’Neill visited the region and kicked off the programmes.  First on the agenda was a coaches update for 51 coaches from clubs and primary schools.  This will soon be followed by an internationally accredited coaching programme.
The development team also spent time with the Under 17s and Under 19s schoolboy teams as well as senior leagues.  The team provided support and feedback and were impressed with the level of ball handling skills and natural talent.
BID Development team manager Morris said: “We are very committed to putting in place what needs to be done to assist in the development of rugby league in PNG.
“Bougainville is a centre that shows great natural talent and we look forward to working with them to develop their youth and provide opportunity.”
The BID’s All Schools Program is currently holding their zone titles throughout PNG.  Regional championships will soon come together for the national schoolboys championships to be held in Port Moresby in September.
