POPONDETTA Rugby League is now an affiliated member of PNG Rugby Football League this year.

This was the initiative of the PRL executives headed by president Anko Wamage, his deputy Jeff Mea, referee’s boss Kila Sibolo and school boys president Ali Kosky. They had the support of Northern Governor Gary Juffa and Sports and Youth Sector chairman Herbert Isemba with a support funding of K200,000 to make it a reality.

The executives were in full force during the PNG Rugby Football League annual general meeting in Lae last Saturday. Their attendance at the AGM was to witness the outcome and establish relationship and common understanding with the new PNGRFL Board.

“We revived the league early this season after some years in the wilderness and want to see it flourish under the leadership of new chairman Don Fox and his deputy Tsandis Saka including Southern Regional director Gwaibo Mairi,” Wamage said.

“Development and infrastructure is our top priority and we strongly appeal to the PNGRFL board to support this in their term in office. We are working hard to achieve that aim for the betterment of the league”.
