A PREGNANT woman was saved in a roadside emergency service by the Oil Search Health Foundation medical team in Tari last week.

The team was on its way to the Pori Health Centre in remote Tari, Hela, when they ran into a woman needing urgent medical attention following a beating.

The woman from Pori was six months pregnant. She had an argument with her husband’s new wife, which resulted in a physical confrontation.

The argument started over who should use a piece of land for gardening, which saw the second wife overpowering the pregnant woman.

The pregnant wife was bashed up with sticks and stones.

Programme officer for the Oil Search Foundation, Kevin Gordon said it was fortunate the team was in the area at that time.

“We were on our way to Pori Health Centre when we were confronted by the husband who told our local driver in the Huli language that his wife was badly bashed, “ he said.

They drove to the site where the woman was and did a physical examination.

The victim’s main concern was her baby.

However, the medical team confirmed the baby was okay and the woman was treated and sent home.

The husband thanked the team.
