Hagen Eagles name two sides for a trial match

THE Bintangor Mt Hagen Eagles board have announced two training squads for a trial this Sunday at Kagamuga Showground in Mt Hagen, Western Highlands province.
The squads were selected from the Western Highlands Governor’s Cup rugby league challenge held in the last two months.
Eagles team manager James Pini said most of the players were young and had the potential to make the tough bemobile Cup competition.
“The selection is purely based on the Governor’s Cup competition where selectors have noted senior players, Jason Tali and Emmanuel Kunjil, however, they turned down the offer due to their commitment Toyota Enga Mioks this season,” he said.
Pini said the selection was in line with Western Highlands provincial government’s vision of “involving youths in sports equals reduction in law and order in the communities”.
The team manager lauded Governor Tom Olga for his initiative in introducing the Governor’s Cup and financing it through the Western Highlands Development Corporation. 
Pini said the focus of the board and management was to develop players locally and export them nationally.
“We are not too keen in recruiting players because we have more than enough players here. It is just that we are not tapping into the raw talents,” he said.
“Winning a tournament like the bemobile Cup is one thing, but more importantly, developing human beings in the game of sports – rugby league is reality,” Pini added.
He is appealing to business houses to step in and assist the rugby league for this season.
He said sponsorship had been a problem last year but the franchise posted K39,000 profit because of the overwhelming support from the Bintangor Group of Companies, John Sia and his team of management, Airports Resort, Wamp Group of Companies and the provincial government.
Team One is called Kuri and comprises of Joe Bea, Dominic Angra, Nos Gabriel, Steven Neng, Robert Camilos, James Meninga, Willie Guambo, George Baker, Mosley Tiko, Mams Wek, Brian Tu, Darren Mikel, Sent Angra, Andrew Namnam, Leo Puri, Stanley Bata, Rodney Stanly, Alphonse Kapi, David Tikili and Albert Gispe. The coach John Waka and trainer James Kops.
Paraka Team Two: Jacob Kuring, George Benson, Daniel Las, David Rombuk, Ray Ruing, Pung Timbil, Junior Lawrence, Benny Pamade, Steven Mapa, McQuinn Rulg, Leo Koipa, Robert Benny, Samson Philip, Wanpis Poning, Elizah Padi, Sent Nonggor, Gilbert Termoney, Thomas Atep, William Onda and Jackson Mond while coach is Ruben Ruing and trainer David Gomia.
