Kokopo water supply project ready to go

ENGINEERS are already on the ground to begin work on a K39 million rural water supply system for Kokopo.
Kokopo MP and Communications and Information Minister Patrick Tammur said the project funding was secured recently from Nasfund by the National Government.
The project is a dream-come-true for some 50,000 people who have been suffering immensely during dry seasons over the years.
Mr Tammur said the project would start soon as all the necessary documentations and ground work had been completed.
The project is an upgrade of an original plan to establish a water supply for Raluana local level government, one of four local level governments (LLGs) that make up the electorate.
He said water would be pumped from the nearby Warangoi River to several treatment plants and then reticulated to Raluana LLG and onto Kokopo-Vunamami and Bitapaka LLGs.
“It is sad to see women and children using plastics to fill water at the beach. The days of filling plastics and drums with water from the beach will be over soon,” he said.
Mr Tammur also announced a total of 1,500 water tanks would soon be given to all 74 wards in his electorate.
The tanks were bought under his district funds.
