A gift for Goroka

Letters

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill gave an assurance, on his last visit in Goroka, to make permanent the incumbent acting provincial administrator.
This is most-welcome news.
This is the icing on the cake of Goroka after having secured the once-in-a-lifetime Apec meetings and following several multi-million kina projects including the hospital, airport, town water supply and market redevelopments.
In the pipeline are the Ramu-2 hydro and the Kainantu town water and sewerage projects.
The announcement of the provincial administrator appointment is a gift of similar proportions by the prime minister.
The acting provincial administrator has taken a no-nonsense stance against issues of slackness and corruption. He has set his eyes on overseeing a number of impact projects that will improve provincial revenue.
We have seen the working rhythm between the heads of politics and public service in our province in just a short time.
It augers well for the next five years. The acting provincial administrator and Governor Peter Numu at the helms heralds a new era for Eastern Highlands.
Talk of who is in and who is out, and rumours of who is hot and who is cold for public service and political positions, have been the most-serious impediments to service delivery and the O’Neill was spot on to put an end to it.
Eastern Highlands has had enough instability.
Any deviations from the status quo is bound to prolong disaster.
With no intent to upset our brother Southern Highlanders, we in Eastern Highlands consider ourselves occupying the post of CEO of the country, and are always proud and thankful of him. This letter is to appreciate a son of Goroka, who indeed not only chose to celebrate the first-ever independence with us after being prime minister in 2011, but also continues to have a special heart for the provinces development.
