THE Member for Wabag, Sam Abal has called on leaders in Enga province to control their people.
Abal, who is defending his Wabag seat, said yesterday the recent
killings in Wabag town had portrayed a bad image of the provincial headquarters, his electorate and the province.
He said the people of Enga had gone into the polls peacefully unlike in the past and for so many killings to occur during counting was not good.
Abal said under his “Lusim Gan na Holim Sapol” policy, the people of Wabag went to the polls peacefully and he commended them for showing maturity.
He said he was glad that no one had been killed in his electorate.
Abal appealed to the people from the four other districts, Wapenamanda, Kompiam-Ambum, Kandep and Laiagam-Porgera to respect the provincial headquarters and not to cause trouble in the town.
He said the town did not belong to any particular group and should not be the scene of tribal politics or killings.
He appealed to rival candidates continuously attacking him by damaging his two vehicle two weeks ago to wait patiently and accept the result of counting.
Abal said he welcomed their challenges for the seat and now he wanted them to show their leadership qualities by maintaining peace and order in the district.
He said the people had spoken through the secret ballot to elect their leaders and they must accept the decision made by the people.
He said counting of votes had gone smoothly and he was prepared to accept the result and expected others to do the same.
Abal said no one should get into parliament through violent means.
