A SENIOR officer from the office of deputy opposition leader Sam Abal has called on an intending candidate contesting the Wabag open seat to refrain from making false allegations against the sitting MP.
Abal’s first secretary Larsen Talian yesterday urged candidate Isaac Lupari to accept the decision of the people of Wabag.
“Lupari has exercised his democratic right to contest the Wabag seat but the people seemed to have rejected him outright through the ballots,” Talian said in a media statement yesterday.
Lupari is from the same Keas village as Abal. A preliminary count result posted by the PNG Electoral Commission showed Abal leading the race with 9,538 votes while Lupari was trailing in seventh place with 1,502 votes. In second place was Robert Sandan Ganim (7,445), followed by Paul Kurai with 5,174.
“For Lupari to run to the media and say that Wabag district funds have been misused is not true and of no substance.
“These stories were fabricated to spoil Abal,” Talian said.
Abal is a three-term MP “whose record and leadership quality speaks for itself”.
He said Lupari should be investigated for his part in the disbursement of more than K80 million belonging to the Enga Children’s Fund.
