A MAN has been jailed for six years after assaulting his girlfriend at a nightclub in Port Moresby.
Waigani National Court judge Justice Panuel Mogish said there was no mitigating factor to explain why Samson Ikasa committed the offence.
Ikasa pleaded guilty to the charge of causing grievous bodily harm at the nightclub on Feb 28, 2016.
The court heard that Ikasa had noticed her former boyfriend at the same club. The court was told that Ikasa holds a degree in accounting and was employed as a senior accountant with a company.
Justice Mogish said the “assaults (on the girlfriend) as depicted in photographs demonstrate they were vicious and brutal”.
“She suffered a fractured jaw bone,” Mogish said, while sentencing Ikasa.
“Two iron plates and 10 screws had been inserted between her teeth and gum to hold a fracture in place.”
Justice Mogish said the injuries to her jaws were permanent and would require further medical attention.
