‘Accurate data key to policy management’

National

Accessing accurate and systematic data is essential for the successful management of national policies and programmes, an official says.
PNG Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (PNGEITI) Secretariat head Lucas Alkan said this during the 2019 PNG State of the Environment Report workshop in Port Moresby last month.
It is an international reporting obligation led by the Conservation and Environment Protection Authority. It is to present information that relates to the current state of the PNG environment.
This is done with the aim of setting the basis of effective environmental management, planning, and reporting.
“The PNGEITI national secretariat is pleased to share data as part of CEPA’s international reporting obligations. It is encouraging to see that PNGEITI reports play an important role in providing contextual, financial and economic data for the country’s inaugural State of the Environment Report,” Alkan said.
