A MAN charged with the murder of a woman in a rural village in Morobe last month appeared in the Lae District Court last week.
His request for bail was rejected and was told that he could apply for it in the National Court.
Ena Giu, 21, of Pose village in Huon Gulf, appeared before magistrate Tera Dawai accused of chopping the neck of a woman with a bush knife on April 12 between 9pm and 9.30pm.
She was with her husband, step-daughter and an elderly woman at home although at the time of the murder, all, except her, had gone to bed.
The woman was weaving a string bag using a head torch.
Police alleged that Giu came under the cover of darkness, entered the house and went straight to the deceased and allegedly chopped her neck with a knife. She fell and died instantly.
The defendant then allegedly pulled the woman’s body out of the house but the noise woke up a neighbour who came out of his house and saw what the defendant was doing.
It was alleged that by then other villagers had woken and gathered.
Giu allegedly left the body and fled in the dark.
The community mobilised to search the village and arrested Giu. He was brought to a rural police station and later transferred to Lae where he was charged and locked up.
The case will return to court on Aug 5.

  • Its very sad to see a young woman who supposed to enjoy her young life and live longer being shorten by some babaric uncivilized person. He deserve to in prision for life, the motives the death is unknown but it is not good to take someone’s life.He chopped the woman neck off supprisingly from the back without being alerted, how on earth killing such innocent people. My sympathy to the husband and her immediate families in this time of sorrow.

  • Why bail? Don’t release the killer. He will do another killing or he will be kill by the woman’s relatives so its better send him life years in prison with hard labor.

  • What a tragic, we see and hear so many of this incidences time and again. Our judiciary needs to hand down tougher penalties. My concern is the publicity of such cases that always portrays a negative image for our society and country. Sometimes these stories are on front page of our dailies. Would appreciate for the editors of the two dailies to take some other proactive measures.

  • He has no respect for the fellow human life. Why not the govt impose a death penalty/sentence on him. This kind of people are not needed anymore in this beautiful country.

  • This is wilful murder case – such cases are not allowed bail and bail requests should never be entertained by the courts. That idiot will be reprimanded in jail awaiting his next scheduled hearing and shouldn’t be released.

What we don’t understand from this report is the reason behind the killing – how could someone kill another human being just like that. This reporter needs to do a bit more digging around for the reasons so it makes sense to us readers to understand why he did what he did.
