Man sews masks, plans to employ youths

A MAN who sews and sells blouses, bags, and caps for a living plans to use unemployed youths to help him make face masks.
Walter Nangu from Kubalia in East Sepik started sewing masks for school children after noticing that some parents cannot afford the disposable face masks.
“I sell a reusable face mask for K3 which is affordable to children,” Nangu said.
“I have sent samples of my masks to schools around Lae and received positive feedbacks.
“So I need more hands to sew the thousands of masks needed for the schools.
“I am also waiting for the health authority to approve my samples before I can distribute them to schools.”
He has been earning around K50 a day from the face masks.
Nangu, who taught himself to sew, is calling on authorities assisting small to medium enterprises to help them supply such things in abundance to children.
Parents and school children have requested him to sew masks for them and companies.
“I choose the right fabric for the products I sew.
“For face masks, I chose fabrics that can help people to breathe.”
