East Sepik police commander Superintendent Robert Gesa says they have identified the police officer accused of killing a man in Wewak last week.
“The accused officer was among five other officers alleged to be involved in shooting a man at Wariman last Saturday afternoon. I have put an investigation team to investigate this incident,” Gesa said.
He said it was a police shooting resulting in the death of a 30-year-old man who worked at the South Seas Tuna factory.
“The situation is now back to normal after angry villagers put up obstacles to close the rood leading to the West Coast Highway. We had ordered the villagers to remove the roadblock last Sunday after assuring the villagers that the investigations would be done on the killing.”
Meanwhile, Gesa said that they had detained a man at the Wewak police station for allegedly killing his wife on Kairuru Island.
“The husband allegedly killed his wife during a domestic argument last week.” Gesa said that in another incident, two suspects had been detained at the Angoram police station for allegedly killing a man. The suspects allegedly killed the man over the death of their female relative last week. The deceased is the husband of the deceased woman. “So it was like a double-murder case,” Gesa said.
