Address blackouts in Waigani Heights

Letters

FOR the whole of February, my neighbourhood (Waigani Heights – the street going up the hill from Carr Memorial Primary School) has experienced continuous blackouts and low current of electricity.
On Monday the power went off again, after an 8-hour supply.
Yesterday, my neighbourhood experienced complete blackout.
The power was out for four days.
I have trouble understanding why no one from PNG Power is helping us.
I called many times, asking the organisation for assistance.
I asked them to fix the problem but nothing has been done.
Every time I call the hotline 116, I am told that it is just maintenance and that it will be dealt with soon and power will be restored.
We are in March, but Waigani Heights has been suffering since February.
One reason PNG Power gives is” “It’s a city-wide blackout, lots of places don’t have power.”
I know that there is some truth to that statement, but I am standing here, on my veranda and looking across the street, to the houses around North Waigani and they are all lit up.
I know that just on the other side, houses near the fuel service station are lit up with electricity.
It is just my neighbourhood that is in complete darkness.
How is this not an urgent matter to PNG Power?
A neighbourhood, especially in the heart of the city, experiencing blackout for four days is urgent and should be dealt with.
PNG Power posts on Facebook about how they have restored power to the villages in Central but they cannot even post an update about why Waigani Heights has been in constant blackout since February.
Is it so hard to send a team check and fix the issue?
I am tired because I have reached out to PNG Power many times for help but I haven’t gotten any.
