Sir Michael, our inspiration

Letters

WHEN God wants to accomplish his purpose for a person or a nation, he calls a man.
Founding fathers are called by God to give birth to nations.
The father of the nation is an honorific title given to a person considered the driving force behind the establishment of a country.
For the Solomon Islands, it was Sir Peter Kenilorea.
For Vanuatu, it was Walter Lini and for Fiji, it was Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara.
India had Mahatma Gandhii while America had George Washington and Indonesia had Soekarno.
For Papua New Guinea, it was Grand Chief Sir Michael Thomas Somare.
Through his faith and visionary leadership, PNG was born on Sept 16, 1975.
Sir Michael was born with a seed of greatness in 1936 and lived to fulfill his assignment, leaving behind a colourful and outstanding legacy not only to be remembered but to be emulated by today and tomorrow’s generation.
Sir Michael, with support from like-minded statesmen, have laid the foundation of a united, peaceful and prosperous PNG based on Christian principles.
Just as Moses in the Bible, Sir Michael brought political freedom to us without bloodshed.
It is time for sons and daughters of this great land to arise in unison as Joshua in the Bible did.
It is time to contribute to PNG.
