Address sea piracy in Esa’ala

Letters

AM a local boat owner serving the maritime province of Milne Bay for more than 15 years.
I have been a victim of sea piracy on six different occasions where my crews and passengers sustained injuries, my boat damaged, safety equipment stolen, cargoes stolen, substantial amounts of cash stolen and lives almost lost.
The hotspots are Ulumwa in Dobu local level government, Sewa Bay, Bwasiyaiyai, Kurada, Bunama and Barabara in Duau.
The most recent sea piracy attack on my boat occurred on Dec 9 a few kilometres away from Digalagala Island in Esa’ala.
I lost all cargoes, personal belongings, cash and boat equipment.
A crew member had his two toes chopped.
There are other boat owners who had similar experiences and despite lodging complaints with relevant authorities, nothing constructive had been done to stop these unbearable activities.
We boat owners pay taxes to the state for conducting business so what does the provincial and district authorities have to offer in terms of our safety and security?
Over to you Milne Bay transport authority and our MP Davis Steven.
