THE Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) literacy for life training project in Port Moresby has been commended by one of its participants.

Morata Adult Literacy School assistant coordinator Rodney Charlie told The National last Friday that he now knew how to manage an organisation and write proposals for funding. He attended a recent two-week course.

The agency is working with civil society organisations Anglicare PNG, Anglican Mothers Union, United church of PNG and the Morata Adult Literacy School to build  leaders’ capacity through training.

Charlie said: “As the assistant coordinator of the Morata Adult Literacy School, I am prepared to manage the organisation and develop it to the next level with the knowledge I have acquired.

“The most important thing I learnt from this training is honesty and trust. With these two principles we can engage support from donors and the communities.”

Project manager Gloria Numa said the training began in March with leadership and management courses. They then covered governance and recently moved on to financial management and project cycle management.

“Two leaders from each organisation have attended the training and are required to go back and conduct the same training in their adult literacy schools.

ADRA POM Literacy for life is funded by ADRA Australia. It began in July 2012 and will end in June 2015.
