THE East New Britain provincial administration supports the national e-ID card system project expected to begin next year.

During a one-day workshop at the Kokopo Primary School conducted by a team from the National Statistics Office last Friday, deputy administrator Levi Mano said they would support the project at the district level.

Mano said information technology was advancing throughout the world and it was time for PNG to tap in and use it for development purposes.

“IT is advancing and in order for us to be part of the global community, we should be part of it,” he said.

He challenged public servants in the province, particularly in the districts, to ensure that the project was successful.

He also urged them to correctly inform the people in their districts about the system so that they could willingly submit their personal information for their e-IDs.

ENB is the sixth province in the country to be visited by the NSO team.  Bougainville is next.

Deputy national e-ID card system project director Boe Douna said in Kokopo on Friday that the project should boost government’s efficiency, enhance its image and performance at all levels of administration.

Douna said it would also reduce government operating costs, suppress domestic instability factors and build a stable society through better policies and planning with up-to-date information on people’s activities.
