TWO Adventist church agencies in Northern have received funding to support adult literacy programmes.
Adventist Development and Relief Agency (Adra) Papua New Guinea and Adventist Care (Adcare) PNG in Sohe, Northern, received a total of K150,000 from Sohe MP Henry Amuli last week.
Amuli said K50,000 was presented to Adra and K100,000 was presented to Adcare to fulfil a commitment he made last year to support the church’s programme in his electorate.
“I really appreciate the good work by Adra in Kokoda, they have been doing good community work mainly on leadership training, assisting women and youths through their workshops,” he said.
“They have been doing a great job in the district, especially in Kokoda and we really appreciate Adra’s presence there.”
Amuli said Adra had been supporting Sohe in providing allowances for its literacy teachers, teacher training and capacity building training for ward councillors before he was elected MP in 2017.
“This money will support the work of Adra in Kokoda, and in the future, we will continue to fund them to extend what they have been doing in Kokoda,” he said.
Amuli said he appreciated what Adra had done so far and wanted them to continue their work in improving literacy.
Amuli’s support for both agencies is part of Adra PNG’s partnership with the Australian government through the church partnership programme which has been supporting Adra Kokoda for the last six years.
According to Adra PNG, more than 2,000 learners graduated, more than 20 literacy teachers had been trained, and 10 councillors had received ward development training over this time.
