VEHICLES travelling in and out of Madang have faced difficulty driving through a section between Kawar Market and Iguruwe.
Police officers from Madang and Walium have been patrolling this section of road to ensure safe travel for vehicles because of its bad state due to recent heavy rains.
The road’s drainage needs improvement to keep the road dry.
A passenger who was travelling from Madang to Lae said their bus could not make it across the bad area. He said women, girls and children had to walk to dry land while the men helped push the bus.
He said most of the buses had to be pushed through to get to the drier section.
Madang police commander acting Supt Mazuc Rubiang issued instructions to his officers to patrol that section of the road because of reports of robberies.
He urged vehicles to travel in groups along that section of the road.
Rubiang said members of a gang that had been active in the area were arrested by police a week ago.
He said there were some gang members still at large and reminded travellers to on be alert.
