THE Fresh Produce Development Agency (FPDA) has embarked on increasing its technical manpower to work with its partners, interested corporate organisations and line agencies to deliver extension services in the farming communities throughout Papua New Guinea.
The agency is looking to build productive partnerships with development authorities in provinces to develop and build capacities of farmers in the fresh produce sub-sector and improve the value chain system of marketable products.
FPDA chief executive officer Mark Worinu said experienced officers needed to be recalled to implement this aim while the recruitment of new graduates would also ensure continuity in their programmes.
He welcomed back the recalled officers and reminded them that FPDA valued their skills, knowledge and experience in order to implement its key goals and visions.
“You have space to contribute to the development of this sector through the vital programmes that FPDA has as an agency tasked (by government) to develop the horticulture industry in the country.
“This (horticulture) is an infant industry and we have a lot of work to do.
“Your expertise and experience is crucial towards delivering on our mandated roles.”
The recalled officers were given the following responsibilities within the agency – James Kraip (special projects manager), Alex Agiwa (seed and planting materials programme manager, John Susub (agribusiness advisor), Reuben Nui (agribusiness officer), and Israel Steven (elite seed potato officer).
