THE Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and Immigration & Citizenship Authority (ICA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to share costs and posting of immigration officers overseas.
The MoU was signed by DFA secretary Barbara Age and ICA’s chief migration officer Solomon Kantha last week.
Both Age and Kantha believe that the MoU would enhance the cooperation of both government organisations.
“This agreement will also strengthen the relationship of the organisations and help us achieve high efficiency in our services at diplomatic missions overseas.
“It will also help provide guidelines for the administrative and financial responsibilities of both agencies in diplomatic missions,” Kantha said.
He said the MoU would forge a common goal towards ensuring diplomatic missions effectively represented the interests of the country.
Age said she believed that more could be achieved through close cooperation between the two departments.
“I believe we can achieve a lot more together and this MoU is the way forward for us to better represent Papua New Guineas interest abroad,” she said.
