AN agreement has been signed between the East Sepik health authority (PHA) and Divine Word University (Kaindi campus) to enable university nursing students to do their training at the Boram Hospital.
The signing was witnessed by East Sepik Governor Allan Bird, provincial administrator Dr Clement Malau, PHA chairman Mike McCulley, PHA chief executive officer Mark Mauludu and DWU Kaindi campus vice-president Dr Lawrence Arockiaraj.
Bird, speaking in Wewak yesterday, highlighted the issue of shortage in medical workers in the province and how the agreement would help solve this.
He congratulated the two organisations for the agreement and said it was the way forward to boost the number of health workers in the province. Dr Malau shared the view that a dearth of health workers related to lack of training in the province.
Dr Arockiaraj said he looked forward to working with the health authority to train more students to help the province and country.
Meanwhile, Mauludu clarified that the Boram school of nursing had been given the “ok” and would continue to train nursing students along with the Kaindi students.
East Sepik has two nursing colleges – DWU Kaindi school of nursing and Boram school of nursing.
