JUSTICE and Attorney-General Department (DJAG) secretary Dr Eric Kwa, Northern Governor Garry Juffa and Ijivitari Open MP Richard Masere witnessed a ground breaking ceremony for the community justice service centre (CJSC) in Ijivitari on June 16.
The ceremony was held at Oro Bay in Northern and is the first in Southern.
Masere, in welcoming Dr Kwa, said the CJSC was a much-needed project that would assist in addressing the law and order in the province.
He said the establishment of the CJSC was an investment that would benefit the community and the province.
Dr Kwa said the concept of establishing the CJSC was introduced in 2016 by the Government directing DJAG to establish the CJSC into all districts in the country to facilitate a central justice centre to coordinate all law and justice programmes.
“Not only will the CJSC house the district court services, it will also house justice services such as parole, probation services and the National Narcotics Bureau,” he said.
“The Department of Justice and Attorney-General also works closely with other sector agencies, including police, Correctional Services and the National Intelligence Organisation.
“The establishment of the centre will now enable their services to reach the community through the CJSC.
“We need to bring these services to the community level and the only way to do this is through the establishment of a presence at the district level.”
Dr Kwa said the next project for the department would be the construction of a village court building.
