BADILI Vocational School students will now be able to do their industrial training with Atlas Steel Company following a visit by Moresby South MP Justin Tkatchenko. “About 100 jobs were secured for the students,” he added. Recently, the students protested and raised concerns with the Education Department and other authorities on the lack of industrial training. Tkatchenko, who is also Housing and Urban Development Minister, said Atlas Steel responded and invited them to discuss ways to help the students. He said every month 70 students from the school would be taken in by Atlas Steel to do their training. “This will help students to learn and gain experience.” Tkatchenko said Atlas Steel also agreed to provide apprenticeship programmes for five students from the school every year. “Students taking carpentry, broiler maker, Information Communications Technology and other courses will be engaged in the programme,” he added. Tkatchenko urged the students to be committed and embrace the opportunity given to them. “Organisations, businesses, parents and leaders should push students to do something for themselves,” he said. “Such support from companies will help students to be better and productive citizens who can contribute to nation-building.”
