A SCIENTIFIC officer at the Sandaun provincial administration, division of agriculture and livestock, will be part of an apprenticeship programme for Asian, Pacific and American extension/farmers in Indonesia from April 22 to June 22.

The activities will be carried out in Jakarta and West Java by the ministry of agriculture of Indonesia.

Indonesian Embassy education attaché Didik Wisnu Widjajanto said the programme is aimed at giving excellent opportunity for Asian, Pacific and Americans farmers to learn agricultural skills and techniques directly in Indonesia.

The programme is in line with the New Asian-African Strategic Partnership (NAASP), the spirit of South-South Cooperation (SSC) and the global commitment to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Widjajant said it was also in line with the implementation of the Indonesian government’s commitment to assist PNG in agriculture techniques.

Commitments were submitted during the state visit of President of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to PNG in March 2010.

Eight participants, two from each of the four countries – PNG, Vanuatu, Timor Leste and Suriname – will be attending.

Candidate should be a staff or officer at the agriculture and livestock agencies and the other one should be a farmer.

Two persons from PNG were registered – Joe Naga Guaf and Hugo Prabon. However, Prabon withdrew.

Guaf left for Jakarta via Jayapura last Monday.
