THE National Museum & Art Gallery’s school holiday programme “spell@muse” spelling bee competition ended on a high note with Eki Vaki Primary School walking out winners.

Four primary schools competed against each other with Ororo finishing second, followed by June Valley and Wardstrip.

Museum director Dr Andrew Moutu praised the students and teachers for taking part in the programme and said more schools will be involved in future programmes.

He said international schools were not involved this time but with the success of this programme, a national spelling bee competition would be initiated with inclusion of all schools in the country.

“With introduction of internet and mobile phones, students are not taking spelling seriously in their learning and seem to use short cut words and phrases to send messages,” he said.

Moutu presented certificates to students acknowledging their time at the museum attending the programme.

Ororo Primary School teacher Aileen Oendana said such organised programmes brought together schools and created atmosphere of learning.

And students have learnt a lot, she said.
