Agriculture still being ignored

Letters

THE Government has stated to “take back PNG” and has said to put millions into the agriculture sector to boost the industry though as I have seen many rundown coffee plantations in Eastern Highlands and Western Highlands as well as coconut plantations in coastal areas.
This shows corruption at the top as the officers who are working in those departments are purchasing car after car while resource owners lack funding and support to produce more product to support the economy.
Because millions of kina given to these departments are not supporting the agriculture, farmers decided to quit to do other jobs while some just left their farms and this resulted in low production.
Now, the Coffee Industry Cooperation has said that coffee production has dropped rapidly – from 90,000 bags exported in 2017 to only exports 60,000 bags.
We need patrol officers and educators and financial backups to go around inspecting areas and not to sit in the office, waiting for farmers to come and ask for assistance.]
Most farmers are uneducated and cannot read or write so they just don’t understand where to go for assistance and what to do.
