GOVERNOR-General Sir Bob Dadae has told the management team from the Auditor-General’s Office that they should make the public service accountable to the people.
Dade made the statement when he received the 2018 annual management report from acting Auditor-General Gordon Kega and the senior management team at Government House in Port Moresby yesterday.
“When I first graduated from UPNG (University of Papua New Guinea), I was accepted to work at the Auditor-General’s Office,” Sir Bob said.
“I worked for only three fortnights and was offered a job back in the district (Kabum, Morobe) and worked there before entering politics.
“Your office is a very important office that will keep the agencies of state and state institutions at all levels accountable to the people of the public funds that they manage and spend.
“You people have a very key role to play in ensuring this and it is important that the office of the Auditor-General performs its functions effectively and efficiently.”
He commended them for presenting their annual report and encouraged them to do their job diligently as they served a special purpose in ensuring accountability of public funds.
Kega thanked Sir Bob and said they were pleased to present the report.
Kega told the media that one of the issues that affected their work was the shortfall of funding every year.
He said when the department was equipped with sufficient funding would help them perform their duty effectively.
