THE Criminal Investigation Division (CID) in Port Moresby lacks records of investigated crimes and pending results, its director says.
“Many of the CID bosses throughout the provinces do not know what they are doing. Many officers are not sending in their weekly reports of crimes being investigated and the outstanding ones,” director Mark Yangen said.
He said even the officers who were holding office and in-charge of the crimes division did not have the knowledge and skills for the job.
“Our CID office does not have updated records or any statistics of the investigation reports that we can supply to any media that is asking,” he said.
“When a crime is committed, a report has to be filed, after the report another document (brief report to authorities) should be filed again to reach our office but this is not the case.
“Sometimes some of this officers are done with communication lines like telephones, email and even when network is down — all causing the slow progress.”
Yangen said only Lae sent in their weekly reports.
He said the last training held in investigation was 18 to 20 years ago. Many who had graduated and were working did not know the proper way to report, he said.
He said it was not their (investigating officers) fault that head office did not have the records.
