AHI landowners in Morobe are pushing for the eviction of immigrants illegally residing on their land at Hanta outside Lae.
In a meeting on March 19, woman leader Christine Nadu said the locals had reached this decision following continuous man-made bush fires, criminal activities, robberies and other violent crimes.
She named the Kosorong population as an area of great interest.
“After our recent meetings, including that of March 19, we have received favourable responses from the government authorities. It is a timely call and we want to see the eviction implemented,” Nadu said.
Police and the provincial administration were also aware of the push by the Ahi people.
However, the Morobe administration was yet to respond to the request.
A preliminary budget had put the estimated cost of the eviction at K30,000.
Ahi villagers were also raising funds for the exercise.
Ahi comprises the villages of Yalu, Kamkumung, Hengali, Wagang, Butibam and Yanga.
