AIR Niugini’s in-house maintenance has completed work on an Australian Q400 aircraft in Port Moresby.
The airline, in a statement, said this was the second aircraft in the region to undergo in-house maintenance checks by its engineering team.
They had begun with a Solomon Airline’s Dash 8 aircraft last
August.
Director Lady Aivu Tauvasa said: “The Air Niugini maintenance team is very capable of doing any work presented to them and especially, to carry out work for the Australian airline which has the reputation of being the safest airline in the world.
“For them to allow us, Air Niugini, to work on their aircraft means that they must consider our work to be of the highest standard, which it always is.”
The team comprises six engineers, of which, three were already trained and licensed on the Q400 aircraft.
They had to submit all their training records to the airline before they were given approval to work on the aircraft.
The three other team members were former cadet trainees.
Lady Tauvasa said: “This is another great opportunity for Air Niugini to show the world that we are as good, if not better, than other maintenance organisations.”
