THE body of the passenger who died when an Air Niugini aircraft crash-landed on Sept 28 in the Federated States of Micronesia has been flown home to Indonesia, according to the airline.
A statement from the airline said the body of Eko Cahyanto Singgih left Port Moresby for Java in Indonesia yesterday. A team brought in by the airline is accompanying the body home. Indonesian employees of Air Niugini will also make the journey to ensure his family received all the help they needed.
“Air Niugini, as a member of International Air Transport Association (IATA), has for the past nine years also been part of IATA’s prestigious and comprehensive Operational Safety Audit,” the statement said. “In keeping with the objectives of the Operational Safety Audit following the accident, Air Niugini has undertaken a full risk assessment review of the Chuuk-to-Pohnpei route.
“Having completed that safety review, flights will continue using both our Boeing and Fokker aircraft.”
