AIR Niugini will resume services between Port Moresby and Hong Kong starting tomorrow in partnership with Cathay Pacific Airways under a code-share arrangement.
The national airline in a statement yesterday said the services would be operated by Air Niugini’s Boeing 767 aircraft.
Flights will initially operate once a week on Wednesdays.
The code-sharing with Cathay Pacific as well as an agreement with Air France will allow passengers to transfer to flights in Hong Kong.
Air Niugini chief executive officer Bruce Alabaster said Hong Kong was a major global gateway and connecting hub for passengers and freight.
“Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific is one of the largest and most respected airlines in Asia,” he said.
“With Cathay Pacific’s global marketing reach and connections to destination worldwide, we are confident that our Hong Kong service will become popular (for) travellers and freight shippers.”
He said Singapore was still closed for transfer/ transit passengers.
He said the flight would ferry freight and essential travellers to and from Port Moresby via Hong Kong, including exports from PNG to the Asian markets. He said Air Niugini would increase flights to and from Hong Kong to five weekly when “demand for international travel gradually recovers”.
“Air Niugini continues to operate with strict health and safety measures in place including temperature-testing of all passengers and providing face masks and hand sanitisers to ensure your air travel is safe.”
