ENGA Police Commander Supt Epenes Nili has warned people using social media to be careful of what they are doing in relaying information to the public.
Supt Nili said making defamatory and abusive comments and posts on social media was a norm.
He said there was a lot of information published on social media which lacked facts and based on hearsay which tarnished and damaged reputations.
Supt Nili said last week Enga police arrested and charged a man for tarnishing the name of Governor Sir Peter Ipatas.
“This man was arrested and charged on 24 counts and the police cybercrime team from Port Moresby are in the province are carrying out the investigation.
“This is a warning to others who are using social media to attack some people or even the leaders of the country,” Supt Nili said.
