PNG Air will resume commercial flights into Tabubil following the lifting of lockdown restrictions.
Acting chief commercial officer Nancy Nakikus said the first flight left yesterday morning.
Flights to Tabubil will operate once weekly on Tuesdays.
“With the easing of restrictions, we are slowly starting to see an increase in passenger numbers on all domestic flights and hope to see remaining destinations become available soon,” Nakikus said.
She said the Covid-19 had impacted air travel regulations.
“New personal and environmental hygiene norms and etiquette are required, as are the use of personal protective equipment and physical distancing,” she said.
“It stands to reason that passenger check-in, boarding and deplaning will take longer so that physical distancing can be maintained.
“We, therefore, ask our customers to cooperate with these new norms and procedures to maximise their effectiveness.”
Nakikus said PNG Air would continue to operate in a safe and compliant manner, adhering to advice from the Government.
Passengers who choose to travel are required to complete air passenger travel forms prior to purchasing tickets for contact tracing purposes.
