Airlines service

Letters

I WAS disappointed when my dad who was supposed to travel up to Mt Hagen this weekend struggled to find bargain choosing airline services.
In Papua New Guinea we have two major airlines company operating including some other freight management company and the premier MAF operations.
PNG Air is a private owned company and it’s not a government body or a statutory body.
Air Niugini is a statutory body which was established to provide air transport services to the citizen.
There is always a clear understanding that a statutory body has this sole purpose; to serve the citizen and enable the government services to reach the people on the very least position on the production chain.
Airfares charged per destination, for instance Pom to Hagen (just one-hour flight) has increased from K500 – K700 to nearly a thousand.
What is the reason of this very high mark up?
From my observation, in 2030 inflation will invade our economic and we will face several economic instability and struggles if we keep increasing prices of goods in the store and charge very high fees for services.
Every year, prices of goods and services seems to be increasing in kina, soon Papua New Guineans will have to pay K10 for a single packet of rice which was bought in the 1990s with just 8t.
How can we grab back the real power of kina and toea, when will the government accomplish its economic goal of controlling inflation?
