Ako claims three bronze

DAY four of the Pacific Games saw Team Papua New Guinea’s Sandra Ako claim three bronze medals in the clean and jerk, snatch and overall standings for the women’s 71kg weightlifting division in Samoa yesterday.
Ako came in third with a total of 178kg behind Kiribati silver medallist Tiiau Bakaekiri’s 179kg.
The overall gold went Nauru’s Maximina Uepa who scored 191kg.
She also won bronze in the clean and jerk, and snatch standings.
Nauru celebrated gold in the women’s 71kg with Maximina Uepa emerging as the winner.
She won silver in the snatch and took gold also in the clean and jerk.
Australia’s Ebony Gorincu won the gold in the snatch event.
Bakaekiri won silver in the clean and jerk, which also earned her second in the snatch event.
Meanwhile, Gahuna Nauari went on to claim silver in the men’s overall for the 55kgs after he claimed bronze in the snatch event and silver in the clean and jerk.
Fellow team PNG member Scofield Sinaka also took part and won bronze after coming behind Nuari in the clean and jerk event.
