Albert, Maki keen to take young pack under their wings

SP Hunters forward Stanton Albert says he is eager to lead the young pack in the upcoming Intrust Super Cup alongside Enock Maki.
The two forwards resumed training at the Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby on Monday after takthey took an extended break following representative duties with the Papua New Guinea Kumuls.
Albert said during his eight-weeks break, he enjoyed time with his family in Mendi.
“Training under new coach Matthew Church is getting tough but we are looking forward to adapt to the changing environment,” Albert said.
“I’m feeling good and looking forward to the training sessions.
“It’s a hard task ahead for Maki and me to fill the void left behind by McKenzie Yei, Moses Meninga and the injured Dilbert Isaac.
“We have to step up and play a leadership role for the rookie forwards.
“We have a new coach and rookie players who will take time to understand each other. It’s a work in progress but they’re getting there.”
Albert said coaches had different styles of training.
“Church’s training is mostly based on running and skills,” Albert said.
“It’s obviously good for flexibility and the boys are enjoying the training. It’s the first training season for Maki and me.
“We don’t want to let the younger players down so we are just pushing through. There are many young players from the Digicel Cup in camp for the 2020 season and I’m happy to play alongside them.
“With this handful of energetic players, I’m optimistic about a good campaign ahead.”
