Alleged traffic offender to walk free if police files not ready

A MAN charged with dangerous driving in Lae could have his case thrown out if police files are not ready by next month.
Senior Magistrate Pious Tapil in adjourning Levio Taffy’s case said: “This will be the final adjournment and if the police files is not ready by then, the court may rule in favour of Taffy.”
Taffy, 23, from Hayafaga village in Henganofi, Eastern Highlands, first appeared before the court on Feb 25 for dangerous driving causing fatal injuries that led to the death of Wendy John.
The court told Taffy that it will give time to police to prepare files for an extended period of one month to June 24.
The court further extended the K2,400 bail period for Taffy and told him to come back to court for his final adjournment on June 24.
It was alleged Taffy drove a Toyota Coaster Bus dangerously along the Okuk Highway when he hit Wendy, causing fatal injuries.
She succumbed to her injuries Angau Memorial General Hospital.
