Charges dropped against security guard due to lack of evidence

A COMMITTAL court in Waigani has struck out a stealing charge against a security guard due to insufficient evidence.
Magistrate Paul Puri Nii made the ruling last Tuesday saying police had failed to make a case against Adam Terry from Kendagle village, Southern Highlands, saying: “This matter has been in court for too long without police file.”
Police Prosecutor Senior Sgt Chris Iga told the court that there was no progress in the hand up brief.
Terry, a Guard Dog Security guard, was alleged to have stolen over K20,000 from a woman last September.
Police alleged that last Sept 26, about 2pm the complainant Matilda Koge and her family were at Sogeri Road.
They went for a picnic and to do their laundry at a popular water fall.
It was alleged that while they were there, another suspect named Staggy went over and had a chat with Terry.
Staggy then rushed for Matilda’s three bags, grabbed them and ran into the bush up the creek.
Terry ran after him pretending to give chase.
Terry was alleged to have never returned. Police were alerted and they brought Terry to the station with other witnesses.
He was questioned but denied the allegation.
Nevertheless, he was arrested and charged with stealing and detained at the Boroko Cells.
