A new political party called The Alliance will be launched before the first sitting of Parliament next year.
The announcement was made in Port Moresby yesterday by Madang MP Bryan Kramer, flanked by former Chief Ombudsman Rigo Lua and the party’s legal officer Nemo Yalo.
Kramer highlighted that the launch of the party and its executives would take place in Feb before the first Parliament sitting for 2018.
Kramer said the party would create a significant shift in the political landscape of Papua New Guinea.
“In PNG, we have about 45 registered political parties and of these parties, only 22 political parties make up the 10th Parliament.
“And out of that, there are eight political parties in the Opposition with 27 Members of Parliament.
“And the announcement of the new political party’s brand name
The Alliance is basically aiming at reducing the number of political parties in the Opposition team down to only one or two major political parties.”
Kramer was the former strategic adviser to the Pangu Pati in the leadup to the this year’s national election.
“We have many good Papua New Guineans who want to fight against corruption and corrupt leadership and fight for the future of this country but they need a good platform and The Alliance is that platform we want to create.
“We want to have only one or two major political parties in the Opposition team to challenge and hold accountable the Government and this will definitely cause a significant shift in our political system,” he said.
Kramer said high-level meetings and discussions were held between members and political parties in the Opposition and they all have agreed to the idea and were putting in place a working team which includes himself as strategic adviser, Nemo Yalo as legal officer and Rigo Lua as the interim president.
“From now up until February next year, we will be recruiting people and putting in place the party’s policy and structure and in February, we will officially launch the party with the party executives.”
