Allow women in Goroka to vote freely

Letters

THERE are two women contesting the Goroka by-election.
These two confident women are mobilising women voters to their respective sides.
Communities have women who are very vocal about the freedom to vote independently away from the front-man attitude.
Women in Goroka want to cast their vote in an appropriate manner. A huge number of men also want the same.
Goroka is well-known for its consistent election-related court cases that disrupt service delivery in the district.
This has been common over the years.
Young men who tend to become front-man or community spokesman are none other than con artists who use their communities for their own gains.
They receive bribes to control ballot papers.
They persuade people in villages to mark all the ballot papers fairly but the manipulation of the ballot papers come into play.
This behaviour is a contributing factor affecting people who have rights to cast their votes individually but cannot do so.
The Goroka by-election needs security forces to monitor and lock up hooligans who are moving around as front-man or community spokesman who are professional election con man.
We need our women folk to cast their own votes, it is their rights.
Police Minister Bryan Kramer, please honour your word for police presence in all polling areas.
You gave your word at Massy village when you were there with the Prime Minister James Marape.
The Government must do awareness concerning this important issue.
The Electoral Commission must also be involved in doing awareness so such issues are adressed and avoided.
Gender equality and human rights has to be considered seriously.
A recent gathering of women from the Minimalo local level government raised grave concerns regarding the issue of fair voting for women in Goroka district.
Women in Gahuku local level government also raised similar concerns.
When will the people of Goroka be able to vote freely and fairly?
