MOROBE’S Amba Demonstration Primary School has seen a good start to the academic year with a high attendance last week.
Head teacher John Maliaki said the attendance of the teaching staff last week during their resumption had been important to starting the year well.
“My teachers have started well and have carried out a programme which I have instructed them to do,” Maliaki said.
He said students would undergo revision and introductions over the first week of term one.
“I will be depending on my teachers in regard to the diagnostic testing, so we can organise students according to their learning capacities,” he said.
“In regard to students’ enrolment, we are not taking any transfer students because we have already exceeded our quota.
“The enrolment priority will be given to grade threes who have just joined us.”
The school is a Lutheran agency school which Maliaki said would only charge a K7 project fee as per the Education Department’s circular instruction.
The school serves various settlements within its area and is a level eight school that caters for about 1,000-plus students according to last year’s data.
“It’s a hectic time now, we have given notice and instructions stating that only Monday and
Tuesday will be set aside for grade three enrolment,” he said.
“Teachers are present and are taking attendance of students who have decided to come into class today.”
Meanwhile, he further elaborated that they would not accept transfer students because of the effect it has on school discipline related to overcrowding, limited classroom space.
Maliaki said that normal classes at the school would begin next week.
