BEING disciplined and setting one’s priorities to achieve greater results was the message to first year students at the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) on Tuesday.
Pro-chancellor Goiye Gileng reminded the students that discipline matters in all that you will do in your university life.
“In secondary school everything was focused and regulated by the school while in university you have freedom, but the freedom does not come freely instead it comes at the price.
You have overcome all the odds and you are here,” he said.
He urged students to discipline themselves and give their best to make their parents and sponsor proud.
“If you do not work hard you will disappoint your parents and sponsors.
“It is not only your parents that invested in your education.
“Tax payers were also invested in your education to ensure university is functioning to provide better education for you. “I paid 42 per cent of my salary in tax and my expectations as tax payer and as a parent, I want the best out of you,” he said.
He encouraged them to uphold discipline and do the little things right that will add value to the them and be part of the UPNG beautiful story.
“University is a civilised institution and we all come together from different works of life with different experienced to shared together in this small space of UPNG,” he said.
