HEADS of the country’s missions  overseas visited the Port Moresby General Hospital yesterday to present gifts to patients and talk to staff.
The diplomats were accompanied by staff of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and ushered by senior doctor, David Mokela.
The procession began at the labour ward and made its way to the children’s outpatients and later the tuberculosis and HIV wards.
Hospital staff briefed the diplomats on their daily functions, expressing their concerns and hardships.
Ambassador Gabriel Dusava took notes on the shortage of medical equipment and said he hoped at some point he would be able to help through his post in Tokyo.
The control of infectious diseases and discovery of new strands were of most interest to the diplomats. They questioned health workers on the hospital’s capacity to tackle them.
Senior department employees said it was good to allow the diplomats a chance to see how the hospital was going as it gave them the opportunity to help where they could.
