Ambulance service alert

THE ST John Ambulance service in the National Capital District will be kept busy if the spike in the Covid-19 cases continues, says chief executive officer Matt Cannon.
He said the ambulance – and hospital – services would be kept busy in such an emergency situation which would mean delays in ambulances getting to people.
“But we will do the best that we can to get to you as quickly as possible. We want you to call 111 if you are having very a severe shortness of breath,” he said.
“Our ambulance officers will wear full personal protective equipment (goggles, gown, gloves) so don’t be alarmed if you see that.
“That’s just us being extra cautious to make sure that our ambulance officers are safe and the people are safe.”
He said health workers becoming infected was a concern.
“Health workers are getting very sick (and they) can die,” he said.
“We are not immune. If the coronavirus infects you for the first time, it can make you very sick.
“The trend we are seeing is that some people with the Covid-19 are not experiencing all the symptoms.
“Some are having only a cough, fever or shortness of breath.
“Others think that they have only dengue or malaria when in fact they have the Covid-19.”
