THE Morata Offseason Rugby League says its select side are ready to face Digicel Cup club, Port Moresby Vipers, in a trial match at the Kone Tigers Oval on Sunday.
Competition manager John Mauve told The National yesterday that a 20-man squad had been announced and the players would assemble for training this week.
“It’s a great opportunity for our players,” he said.
“I am sure the Vipers are looking for one or two players in certain positions to complete their playing roster for the upcoming Digicel Cup season.
“So if our players can perform and attract the attention of the Vipers’ selectors during the trial then they may get a call-up.
“I encourage them to give their best during training and play well on Sunday.”
Mauve said it was the first time for the league to select a side for a trial match against a Digicel Cup team.
“Other suburban leagues in the city have played trials against semi-professional sides, but Morata has never done it,” he said.
“It’s our first time and we are proud to host the Vipers.
“We look forward to hosting more trials.”
Mauve said they had also expressed interest to play Gulf Isou and Digicel Cup champions Hela Wigmen.
